The essence of being a godparent
Christmas is here again. And Children now (and parents) start bugging the godparents for gifts. Let me correct you with that little belief that children is to gifts and Christmas is to godparents. It is not.
When you have been chosen to sponsor a child’s baptism, you will be then called a godparent. Thank heavens for that! Being a godparent is like having an opportunity to support a child that is not actually yours. Thus it comes with the responsibility of providing the child’s needs whenever his/her parents won’t be able to provide and support when his/her parents can’t.
It is every godparent’s responsibility to assist the biological parents in rearing a child in the best way they can and not merely giving gifts or anything in kind.
